Beth Torrison Receives Top Honor from WI Council of Teachers of English

Beth Torrison

The Greater Madison Madison Writing Project had a solid showing at the 2015 WCTE Conference at the UW-Milwaukee Continuing Education Center on October 15th. Amy Ruck, John Pruitt, Wendy Bernett, Mark Dziedzic, Sandra Taylor-Marsh, Jen Breezee, and Amy Patterson each presented what you have come to expect from your GMWP colleagues - thought provoking, engaging, and interactive sessions. You can find a more detailed description of each session here.

But the most notable accomplishment of the day was the selection of GMWP co-director Beth Torrison as the recipient of the Chisholm Award for “Meritorious Service to English Education in Wisconsin.”   The Chisholm Award is the highest award that the Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English gives, and that honor was not lost on Beth.  She said, “It came as such a surprise.  It has meant so much to me because it has come from the writing project, and from you all, and you all mean so much to me.”

Beth is a currently a co-director of the Greater Madison Writing Project and an adjunct professor at Madison College.  Prior to joining the GMWP and Madison College, Beth spent more than 30 years as a teacher at Madison East High School.
